NSW Opportunity Class Placement Test
About the Test
The NSW Opportunity Class Placement test is used to identify high-potential and gifted children in public schools across NSW. These students are then offered a place in one of the schools that offers Opportunity Classes in Years 5 and 6.
Test Structure
The test consists of three sections, all with multiple-choice questions:
- Reading: 25 questions to be completed in 30 minutes
- Mathematical Reasoning: 35 questions to be completed in 40 minutes
- Thinking Skills: 30 questions to be completed in 30 minutes
The NSW Opportunity Class Placement test is a paper test.

NSW Selective High School Placement Test
About the Test
The NSW Selective High School Placement Test is used to identify high-potential and gifted students. These students are then offered a position at a Selective or Agricultural high school that provides an educationally enriched environment.
Test Structure
The test consists of four sections, all with multiple-choice questions (except Writing):
- Reading: 30 questions to be completed in 40 minutes
- Mathematical Reasoning: 35 questions to be completed in 40 minutes
- Thinking Skills: 40 questions to be completed in 40 minutes
- Writing: one question to be completed in 30 minutes
Scholarship Tests
About the Tests
Scholarship tests are for students who want to apply for a scholarship to a chosen Independent school. They are conducted at different times of the year depending on the school but are usually held at the beginning of the year in February and March.
